Low Gap Fire

On Thursday, August 5, as we drove west towards OCRC, we noticed white smoke in the near distance. The burn ban has been in effect since July 1, so we suspected it was a grass fire - and it was. The fire was located across the street from the high school, behind what will be the skate park and looked to be down toward the creek. Given the proximity of the fire to our place (~1.5 miles), we decided to pull over and watch what happened.

The first fire truck had come down the street right behind us, and more followed. (There seemed to be a delay before they could get the gate open to the park.) Soon a CalFire helicopter arrived, then the spotter plane, then the "fire bombers" with their loads of borate.

Fortunately, they made short work of the fire. See below.
